Lexi's Google Earth Project

My Google Earth project is about a few of the winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature. I chose to do this topic because literature is one of my interests and the Nobel Prize is a prestigious award. I decided to do winners from all over the world because I found their cultures and reasons for writing intriguing. For features I used image overlays, so you could see a picture of all the winners, layers and also distance measuring.
I had a lot of trouble with layers because I couldn’t find any that were relevant to my project, but in the end I found some that worked. The easiest feature to use was image overlay, all you had to do was find the picture and upload it into the description. In using Google Earth I would suggest knowing exactly what you’re going to do and making sure you can make a great project out of it. All in all Google Earth is a fascinating application, but is very confusing to use at times.

Bre's GE Project

My project is basically about my life, where I've been on vacation, and where I stayed while I was on vacation. The features I chose to use were layers, image overlays, and paths. I chose this topic because I wanted to do something that was simple, but that was about my life. I chose these features because they were the easiest and I knew how to do them. =)
I think what worked well was probably the layers. Because they showed up automatically and it was just a click. What didn't work so well was that I put a picture in there of where I stayed in Hawaii, and it didn't show up. It's just a big X. I think the only tip I have is that make sure you have good nerves because if you decide to do a path that is really long, you need to be able to have the nerves and patients to do it.

My google earth project

My google earth project is on the top 10 hottest places on earth. It was actually difficult to find because the websites i chose only displayed the top 8. But, I placed them in order. You may need to search for my 1st one, I dont know exactly where it is. Anyways, the information was obviously very easy to find.
I wouldn't mind going to any of those places, since I love going to new places and I love hot weather. That is why I chose this as my topic. I got to learn about a few new places, most of them I had never heard of before. It was actually a very simple project, It almost seemed to easy, I hope I did it right,

Kyle's Project

My migration is the life of Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was a famous Blues musician. I chose his life because I didn't know much about him. The most interesting fact i found was about the day he decided to become a musician. He was working at a fast food restaurant and fell in to grease up to his chest. I chose to use the ruler feature to find the distance from East Troy, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois. I did an image overlay of a picture of his gravesite. I placed a polygon over Washington D.C. because I couldn't find exactly where he preformed. 

The Ruler feature gave me a little trouble because it wouldn't show up on my project. I liked the polygon feature because i could cover a whole area with exactly pointing out were he preformed. I also liked the finished product of the migration because it was so smooth once everything was set. 

Google Earth

I did the trips and place's that I've been to through my life. I marked the locations of all the places I have lived. I took a picture of the Bath Village School and used the image overlay feature. I marked a path from my house in Swiftwater to the Bath Village School. I also measured the distance from the Woodsville High School to the Woodsville Elementary School.

Some things I enjoyed about Google Earth was making paths. I liked being able to zoom in and see all objects in 3D. A difficulty I had with Google Earth was that all places had to be checked in order to save and the map tends to move on its own.

Bri's Google Earth Project

For my Google Earth Project, I chose to show the hometowns of my favorite basketball players of both college level and NBA and WNBA levels. There are many tools in Google Earth like paths and image overlay. I used both of these to show pictures of the players. I used paths to show moves that some players did as a child. There is no specific order to which i show the players because I admire all of them the same. 

Using the application Google Earth was very complicated and some tools used on it don't make sense. Some difficulties that I faced was the polygon tool. I have yet to figure out what this tool is used for but I used it to show a large area that I was talking about. The path feature was also tricky because if it is a large area that needs to be connected, it can be difficult to connect. Overall, I like this application because it is easy to find directions for long distances and the pictures are very clear and understandable. Technology has advanced very much over the years and Google Earth definitely shows it with it's details, right down to the cars in the parking lot. 

Teasha's Google Earth Project

What is my project about, what features did I used, etc.?

• I chose to do a project on the places around the world that I would like to see or visit in my life time. I find the following places in my project extremely tempting to visit, and my topic I believe is great. I like sharing what I want to do in life with others, this is just another way to do it. Some of the features that are featured in my project are the image overlay feature, drawing paths and polygons, and measuring distances and areas. I used these features because they were honestly the simplest for me to use and I understood how they worked.
  

What worked well, what didn't work well, what did i struggle with, etc?

• When I was on Google Earth, I'm going to have to say that almost every feature that I attempted to use, didn't work more than once. The polygon feature is the only one that didn't really give me a problem. It was frustrating for me to use the features because they didn't seem to save, exspecially the measuring distances and areas. No matter how many times I seemed to save the project, it would never save the line and or distance that I had measured. What was also frustrating was that all of my image overlays didn't save, and I mean all of them. I had to overlay all of my images all over again. All together it was hard for me to make and prepare this project.

my google project

in my google project i made a story about the top ten places to visit in 2008. my favorite place that i would have wanted to visit is Lisbon. i choose Lisbon because it is a nice hot place wit halot of people. there is no particular order for the places to travel. but i have multiple places so if you travel have fun.

Alicia's Google Earth Project

Google Earth was kind of confusing at first. We had to choose a topic about migration (movement). I decided to do this project about places I want to go in Japan. A lot of people sometimes think that Japan and China are the same...but they aren't. Japan is, technology wise, more advanced than China. China makes a lot of their products cheap, so many different countries can use their merchandise. Japan has many large cities and interesting landmarks, like it's many different castles and formations. Japan is a very interesting topic to learn about and that is why I chose it and I'm also a very big fan of Japan.

There were many things that were confusing about this project. At first, I didn't really know what I was going to do. I knew I wanted to do something about Japan, but the exact subject. After struggling to find a subject for about a day, I decided to just look for places I wanted to visit in Japan. At one point, when I was almost done with my project, an alert popped up and it said "Tour Failed," I didn't know what to do. I think that happen because I had a lot of different things opened in Google Earth. So that gave a few problems also, but I managed to get around it. Overall, This was a pretty interesting project.

Google Earth-Beaches

Throughout using google earth I had many difficulties. At first my computer didn't even work so I had to use a laptop, then my laptop didn't save my work so I had to redo it all. Eventually I was able to get onto google earth yet still wasn't sure of what exactly I was doing. My first topic was going to be places I've gone and want to go but then discovered there were many people doing the same thing and I wanted something different. Soon I thought of unique hotels in various areas that many people have recommended and areas I would like to go sometime. But that didn't work out because the addresses wouldn't allow to be accessed on google earth. I finally found what I wanted to do my project on which was beaches I would like to go. I found many that I enjoyed but put 10 on. 

I didn't understand the program at first and even asked for help, but soon I was able to understand it better and found it quite easy to use and I really ended up enjoying the project as well as google earth.  

Austin's Google Earth

As I started working with the unfamiliar application: Google Earth, I found difficulty in coming up with a topic that worked. I wanted to create a project featuring something around the NBA. I did research and uncovered that Chucky Brown, played for 11 different teams throughout his career. A great topic for migration I thought to myself. I decided that I was going to choose the home arenas in which Chucky represented.

I thought, that finding the addresses for the stadiums was going to be ridiculously difficult, however it turned out to be really easy. All I had to do was figure out the name of the arena and type that in. After I had completed, and went the next day to run through it, all of my pictures were red x’s. I couldn’t figure out what happened until I had remembered that I had thrown them away. All I had to do was take it out of the trash. I really like this program, because it allows you to see the world, without getting out of your chair.

Sam Roys Google Earth

Google Earth is a pretty cool application. I liked how you could explore the world just on the computer seeing everything that you would want. I think that Google Earth would be a pretty cool way to present projects only if you know how to use it.
There are some glitches with it though. Some of the things you can do with Google Earth are poorly explained so you will not know how to use them. I also do not like that you cannot measure paths that you make. That would make the application a lot easier.
My project was on different ski mountains that I have migrated to. I have many views of the ski mountains like an aerial view and from the front of the mountain. I had a lot of fun doing this project. I only wish I knew how to do some of the more advanced things on it. Maybe I will learn them with my spare time.
Overall I think Google Earth was one of my favorite applications. They could make it a little bit easier to use but there needs to be a little challenge in everything.

Google Earth Project

I did my past vacations in Google earth as my project. I also did cool stuff that i found like the space shuttle transporter. It was easy for me to learn the application. It was kind of like teach yourself which made it much easier for me. It seemed like it wouldn't be too helpful in everyday life. It would just be a fun thing like find your house an stuff like that. There isn't really a serious use for it.

Tina's Google Earth

My GE is follows my entire life from since when I was four years old. It's supposed to start in Nashua, NH where I was born and raised. It should zoom into 63 Tolles Street where I used to live. It should then it should zoom into 10 Manchester Street, Nashua, NH which is where I went to elementary school at Mount Pleasant. Then it should zoom into 207 Manchester Street, Nashua, NH which is where I went to middle school at Pennichuck Middle School. The next stop is at 10 Chuck Druding Drive. This is where I went to high school, Nashua High School North. After that, it's supposed to zoom into Woodsville, NH where I moved to on my 15th birthday, October 9th. It was the absolute worst birthday of my life (hahaha). It should zoom into 374 White Mountain Drive, Woodsville, NH where you should see a pretty lake. This is Mountain Lakes, abundant in leechs and (obviously) trees, so many that you can't even see my house. The last stop should be at 9 High Street, Woodsville, NH where I go to school now as a sophomore at Woodsville High School.

If I knew I was going to be posting this, I wouldn't have done my project on this topic. It kind of freaks me out that now I have to describe every detail of my life and people can pretty much stalk me down. Hopefully, no one is that determined...

Okay, so I guess this presentation is also the wrong one, but that's okay because either way it wasn't going to be marvelous. This presentation is missing a few points in my life apparently. 

Obviously I found this project extremely difficult. I can't even figure out how to save it correctly. ''/

Odessa's GE

My project consisted of places I've been and places I want to go. I've never travelled outside of the United States, so a lot of the places I want to go is outside of the United States. A lot of the main places and such were based in New Zealand. I've always been drawn to New Zealand and it's always been appealing to me. I used a decent amount of image overlays in certain places. Every single time I did an image overlay I brought down the image opacity a little bit because I felt as if it made it look a little better. I used paths and such, although I felt as if using the path tool was rather pointless. I used to show how there is a walk-around-path around White Lake- which is a place I have been to quite a few times over the years.

I am personally the type of person that like to learn things on my own. Google Earth was pretty easily to learn. Google Earth has it's cute quirks, but I felt as if Google Earth was kind of poorly made. I believe there is a lot of potential to make Google Earth better. The image overlays were quite helpful to help portray a better visual. I don't like how Google Earth is so slow. It takes a while to load up and lags especially when zooming in and out. I give the program credit for making something like this, but I personally don't like it and I think they have more potential to create something a little or more better. I think I could have put a little more effort in my project, and I would have if I had more time. I've been out sick a lot. I honestly dont have much for tips because the program is pretty simple to understand and get used to.

In my Google Earth project, the three features that I used were image overlay, paths, and I measured the distance between the points. The image overlay was probably the easiest. The other two features were kind of hard to figure out, though. Eventually I figured it out, though. 

Everything was pretty easy. Some of the things took a little bit to figure out though. The image overlay gave me a little bit of trouble because after I put the pictures in, the next day when I opened up Google Earth, all of my images were red x's. This was because I saved the images in my server folder. All I had to do was take the photos out of my server and put them on my desktop and it worked. 

Kirsten's GE

My google earth project was about myself and where I have been. It starts out showing my house where I have lived since I was six. There are explanations of each location. The locations consist of every school I've been to, my moms work place, my sister's house, and vacation areas/field trips I've been to. On my project I made paths to places like my friends house from my house. I also used the polygons feature to show the area of a resort I stayed at in Florida. The third feature I used was the image overlay with this feature I uploaded pictures to some of a my plotted places to show what they look like and what I have experienced.

In this project I didn't start off clueless because I knew the program google earth for a couple of years, I just haven't made projects with it until now. I didn't realize before that it had many more features then just finding places. I struggled with the features like the polygons at first because I didn't understand how to make them. The more I used google earth, the more it became easier, so I had no trouble with the image overlay. Some tips for others who plan to use google earth, look up what the advanced features are before trying to do them because you can easily get things mixed up and it might be hard to fix.

Corrina's Google Earth

My google earth project was about all the different places i have been in my life and where i am now. i have places where i have had the most memories with my family. Also, it has where i have gone to school from preschool to now, and where i would love to go to college. another thing that i have is where i live and where my mom and dad work. the reason i put where they work is because they have been at their jobs for a long time and they really like what they do. all of these places are very memorable to me and my family and friends. i don't ever want to forget where i have been in the world and now i just want to go to a lot more places in the world. i have realized that all of the places you go make great memories and you are able to go back and look at them in this project.

i put different picture on some places so that i could always remember what it was like there. when i went to Alaska, i will probably never go again and so i want to make sure i will remember it. also, i put paths in to my tour. one of the paths, is where my dad has to go to work everyday it is about two miles from my house. one other thing i put in with it is a polygon. i put it in Washington DC because around it is different places that we went to visit while we were there. 

Jacquie's Google Earth

Spending time with Google Earth has really enlightened me. With all of its outstanding features, I have found this program simple to use and convenient. It allows me to create any kind of path I want, whether its places I've been or places I want to go. My Google Earth project was especially fun to do. Just recently, I took a long road trip to New Jersey and got stuck there overnight. I explained this journey in my project using fancy overlays and paths as well as placemarks to depict the experience I went through. To make my project even more interesting, I used the 3D buildings and different angles. 

I really enjoyed doing this Google Earth project. It was very easy to view my sights in all of the ways I wished, and to share it with everyone. I found it especially convenient that my project could be viewed on the Google maps as well. To my surprise, the overlays didn't work with this, which was the only downside. I have no tips to offer for using this program, although I'd like to encourage anyone out there to use Google Earth. It's a great new way to view things differently and is user-friendly!

Stephanie (Google Earth)

For my Google Earth project, I decided to basically map out the places I have lived and the schools I have attended. I also included where I was born and where I hope to live someday. When choosing what features of Google Earth I would use to help represent the places on my map, I decided to maintain what seemed to be one of the projects simpler routes. I tagged the places I choose with the obvious tacks, I created paths to follow from one place to the next, or the daily route I would personally take to get there from day to day (in reference of the schools.) Finally, I accessed as many pictures as I could to go along with the places I choose. I did this simply because I felt that this Google Earth project wasn't the simplest application to adjust to doing, and if I had a hard time doing it, I certainly didn't want to make it hard for others to understand.

When doing this project, I felt that the pictures added by others were interesting to see and somewhat helpful when pertaining to the decision if the place was the correct place desired. I definitely thought using placemarks was the easiest feature, but the paths from one placemark to another gave me trouble. It took me a couple of re-dos of my paths to finally figure out how to do it correctly.

My google earth project is about me mostly where i live, what schools i've been to ,and places i have been , also places i want to go .

Peter (GE)

I did my Google Earth project based on the premise that I had an unlimited amount of money and resources with which to travel anywhere in the world. I had an unlimited amount of time in this scenario, but I wished to keep the time around one to three days. Technically, I'm sure this travel route doesn't exactly fit time-wise, given the time zone interchanges around the world, but hey, it's all conjecture. I chose this because I thought it would be more fun than any alternative, like doing serious research into a topic or already-created trail. Certainly, my project DID require research--and no small amount, at that--but all I'm saying is that this way, I didn't have to simply emulate a trail that already existed.
Of course, creating the Quigley World Tour 2008 did come with its fair share of challenges. Google Earth, while extremely advanced and impressive, did come with its fair share of flaws. Its image overlay option leaves something to be desired--there seems to be no definitive way to anchor an overlay to a specific placemark. Perhaps I just didn't look enough. While on the subject, though, I must admit that the placemark function worked extraordinarily well. It was able to pinpoint a landmark with unerring accuracy and attach a lengthy description to each one--something I appreciated very much. Other attractive functions were the rotations of the globe that still displayed that landscape's topography, and the extremely entertaining option to open up a flight simulator right where you are on the map.

Kyle's Google Earth

For Computer Applications Google Earth project I chose to do the migration of me. It includes where I lived and live, where I have gone to school. and where I plan to go with my life. In my google earth I used image overlays showing the school I have been to and where I want to open a business, lines that showed how far it is from my house to school, and polygons which showed where I want to live when I am older. I chose to do my life migration as my topic because would set a goal for me and show me where I want to go with my life.

For me everything seemed to go well until my image overlays popped up as x marks over the picture.I tried to put these over Warren, Haverhill, and Woodsville School, and where I want to open a business. I'm not quite sure what I should have done about those. Otherwise everything seemed to go well. I didn't have any problems with using the lines or polygons. It did take me a little bit to figure out though how to use the polygon feature to make them 3-D, but once I figured it out it was rather easy. Overall I thought that this project seemed to go rather well.

Haley's GE tour

My Google Earth project is a tour of places around the world that I would like to visit someday. These places are spread out over the globe and they are mostly just places that interest me. Some are there because I want to learn about the culture, like Nigeria. Others I just want to go to see some historical sites, like Athens Greece. All of these places are ones that I would like to go to before I die because they all appeal to me for very different reasons. I used the features: Image overlay, paths, layers, and polygons.

I have 3 image overlays, one path, and one polygon. One thing on Google Earth that worked well for me was the searching for places and then putting on place markers, the path also worked well for me, possibly because it is a pretty simple tool. The things that I thought didn't really work well for me or that i found confusing were the layers, they were easy but I didn't know if it would stay saved one certain places or not.

My project focuses on my life and where I have lived a majority of it. I showed my place of birth and hometown. I tried to pick places where I can remember the best memories that I've had throughout my life like family vacation spots and my favorite places from my childhood like the softball field. I used the tagging feature to tag 10 of my favorite spots that I have been to. I also used the image overlay feature to add photos of WHS on top of it's location. I really wanted to find a use for the polygon feature so I tried to think of a polygon landmark. I found the Pentagon and highlighted it with a polygon so you can easily see how it's size relates to the rest of the country.
I struggled with saving my project from day to day. It was very frustrating to work all class period on adding images and markers, only to come in the next day and have it disappear. I thought that it was also very difficult to reorder my places so the tour would make sense. There are definitely some improvements that should be made to this program before it is ready to be used regularly in academics. I would recommend for anyone trying to use this program to keep a separate folder and save each of their places separately so they are easy find.

Cole GE

In my Google Earth project I discussed WWII battles as well as WWII related sites (I thought that the extra five points for a school related project would be great). I tried a variety of different features in my project, some worked better than others. I used quite a few image overlays as they were very simple. This was basically cutting and pasting. I also used the creating and measuring paths features. The last feature that I used was the polygon.
I felt that overall the Google Earth program is awful. If you had the choice of projects, I would definitely advise against using it at all. If you had to work with Google Earth, I noticed that all of the "advanced" features were simple to use. So using these would be great for a person lacking skills with technology. Although I have said that these applications are simple and great, there are still some big flaws. I would recommend that you set aside a lot of time when working on Google Earth, as the program is deathly slow because of how long it takes to load. Besides being slow, your work is not guaranteed to save and, your images may not load properly. Some of my images still have some trouble. I would like to finally say that you will need a lot of time to get to know the program. The features themselves are poorly explained in the users' guide so it is hard to know what some are for. I still don't know what the true purpose of a polygon si and I gave up on some of the harder topics.
I feel that sharing the project itself was terrible. The option of Google maps was extremely complicated. It was as simple as emailing it to the instructor and then having her post it as an attachment on the site. After this, it was as simple as a click of the mouse and you had someone else' project to view.
I'm hoping that in the future, I will never have to work with this program again.

My Computer Applications class was given the assignment to make a "Google Earth Path" as I would like to call it. While I was experimenting with Google Earth I made a lot of progress showing a lot of my life. I made a path of two houses that I have lived in, the first road I lived on, schools that I have attended, daily walks that I would (and do) take, Churches that I have attended, first job location, and even image overlays to give the viewers a better image of the locations that I have marked.

This project I think went very well for me. I think that everything was very self explanitory. The only trouble that I had was learning how to save my places. It was hard for me to understand because I would always end up saving the wrong place. After though, I had realized that you have click on the title "My Places" that contains all your places, and then save it to the desktop. After you then save it to the desktop you transfer it into your folder. But besides that, making paths were simple, and finding locations and pinning them were simple.
